Welcome to The Grand Masters 2019 Summit Series – A Corporate Counsel Legal Best Practices Summit Series. being organized by Lex Witness – India’s 1st Magazine on Legal and Corporate Affairs. The series provides an opportunity for the legal fraternity to interact, deliberate and exchange our thoughts on contemporaneous legal issues. The Bengaluru Edition to be held on February 22, 2019, has a variety of relevant topics and I look forward to it being a truly engaging discussion.

Most of the distinct trends of 2018 will continue this year especially, electronically stored information (ESI) being accepted as admissible evidence by courts; Indian data protection bill drawing inspiration from the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union; enlarged role of Independent Directors with respect to fraud prevention and detection; etc.

The legal teams across in-house and law firms will witness first-hand the increasing impact of technology in legal services and its contributions improved efficiency and better-quality legal advice. Access to information was never as convenient as it is today and we will continue to see this trend in 2019. From simple AI case-search to robots reviewing contracts, the legal industry is set for disruption. It is important for lawyers to reinvent themselves by taking advantage of the revolutions in technology to stay relevant and continue providing effective counsel.
